Chiara Lombardi
Researcher at ENEA since 2010, she obtained her PhD in Experimental Ecology and Geobotany in 2008 at the University of Pavia.
Experimental marine ecologist, she studies the adaptive responses of marine calcifying organisms that form underwater architectures (bryozoans calcifying algae and molluscs) threatened by climate change (ocean acidification, warming and heatwaves, hypoxia) and their role within climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies (Nature-Based Solutions).
Coordinator and scientific lead for ENEA on various national and international projects (PNRIC, PNRR, PNRA, Royal Society Travel Grant) aiming at studing, protecting and restoring bioconstructional ecosystems and enhancing marine observation systems.
She is the author and co-author of over 100 publications, including scientific journals, book chapters and popular science articles. She serves as a reviewer for several international journals. She is a member of the coordinating committee of the long-term monitoring ecological network (LTER) and of the scientific board of the Italian Climate Network (ICN).
Scientific coordinator of Smart Bay Santa Teresa (https://smartbaysteresa.com/en/), a cooperation platfrom among public bodies (ENEA, CNR, INGV), small and medium-sized enterprises (Scuola di Mare and Cooperativa Mitilicoltori Associati) and local authorities (the Municipality of Lerici) estabilished in 2021. The platform aims at creating an ecosystem model where Nature, man and technologies interact, for generating sustainable solutions to fight the climate change.
A diver since 1998, she dives both for pleasure and professionall pourposes (she is an European Scientifc Diver) in the Mediterranean Sea, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and Antarctica, thanks to the National Antarctic Research Programme (PNRA). As a Dive Master, she provides support for recreational diving and takes part in public science events focusing on marine ecology.
