Abstract

The aim of this study was to understand how the soils developed from different parent materials, under uniform environmental conditions, representative of large areas in Northern Apennines: sandstones and clays. Mineralogical analysis of different soil profiles points to their limited evolution. The geochemical distribution of elements in the examined profiles does not show significant trends, and concentration ranges are close to those of the parent materials. However, Cd and Pb concentrations are quite high in topsoils, because of human activity contribution to the atmosphere. It is inferred that environmental pollution is already present even in areas with low industrial activity. -from English summary
